Residential Roofing

Extreme climate demands more than ordinary shingles—it requires a methodical, step-by-step process built to endure heavy snowfall, ice dams, and frequent temperature swings. At Leo’s Roofing & Remodeling, we marry local expertise with precision craftsmanship, ensuring your new roof delivers long-lasting protection and peace of mind. Count on our commitment to quality for everything from architectural shingles to roll roofing and proactive roof maintenance plans that protect your investment for years to come. From detailed inspections to high-performance installation, here’s how we deliver a durable, long-lasting roof tailored to your home:
1) Scope Preparation & Demolition
First, we thoroughly inspect the roof deck to catch any underlying issues that might compromise the new roofing system. If structural or decking repairs are needed, we’ll advise you to address them before continuing. After that, our crew removes old materials, stray nails, and debris so we can begin with a clean, stable foundation for underlayment.
2) Underlayment Installation
With the roof deck cleared and prepped, we apply bituthene underlayment to safeguard against moisture and ice. HT Grace Ice & Water Shield is used in areas slated for standing seam metal, given its high-temperature resistance. For the rest of the roof, Grace Ice & Water Shield offers robust defense against leaks and ice dams. This underlayment shouldn’t be exposed for more than three months, so if delays extend beyond that window, a fresh application may be needed at an additional cost. Also note that dry-in on walls isn’t part of the standard package, but we can quote it separately if required.
3) Roof Preparations
Before final roofing materials go on, we secure all roof penetrations. Our team installs new pipe flashings for PVC vents, reuses existing metal flue cone jacks in good shape, and re-caulks storm collars or caps. If replacements are necessary, we’ll discuss pricing ahead of time so you’re never caught off guard. This step ensures every vent and flue is properly sealed against Summit County’s freeze-thaw cycles.
4) Metal Flashing Installation
Flashing is crucial for redirecting water and preventing leaks. We custom-fabricate and install:
- 24-gauge prefinished D-Style drip edge at rake edges
- 24-inch-wide prefinished steel valleys (integrated with underlayment)
- Prefinished steel step flashing along sidewalls
- 24-gauge steel headwall flashing at roof-to-wall intersections
- Kicker flashings where water would otherwise flow directly onto siding
By tailoring these metal components to each roof’s dimensions, we bolster leak prevention and achieve a clean, finished look.
5) Roof Installation
Finally, we install Owens Corning Duration Shingles or standing seam metal panels to meet both your aesthetic preferences and performance needs. Shingles and panels are fastened with 11-gauge galvanized nails ensuring corrosion resistance and solid anchorage—often about three-quarters of an inch through the plywood. Starter courses align with the underlayment, and each row follows the NRCA’s six-nail pattern leaving valleys open to display newly installed metal for efficient drainage. We then add hip and ridge shingles that match the color and profile of your main roofing material, creating a cohesive, polished finish.
